Who We Are

Cineberry.co.uk is a personal film review website based in the United Kingdom. You can contact me via the Contact page.

What Personal Data We collect

The only personal data Cineberry collects is information you voluntarily provide when leaving a comment:

  • Your name (required field)
  • Your email address (required field)
  • Your website (optional field)
  • The text of your comment

Your IP address and the date/time of your comment, which is recorded automatically by the website platform, will also be collected, in addition to your browser agent.

We do not collect any other personal data data. We do not use analytics tools or advertising services.

Why We Collect It

Cineberry collects comment data to allow visitors to engage with the content on this website. Our lawful basis for processing this data under the UK GDPR is in enabling public discussion on published reviews and essays. You are under no obligation to leave a comment or provide your real name or email address.

How We Use Your Data

Your name (if provided) may be displayed publicly alongside your comment. Your email address is never displayed publicly and is used only to identify repeat commenters or, if necessary, to contact you about your comment.

Your name, email address, comment content, timestamp of comment, IP address, an anonymised string created from your browser agent (also called a hash), website referrer, and operating system are used to detect and prevent spam comments by Jetpack.

We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties, except where required by law or where our website hosting provider processes it on our behalf as a data processor.

How Long We Keep Your Data

Comments and associated data are kept for as long as the relevant post is published on Cineberry. If a post is deleted, associated comments and data will also be deleted.

As Cineberry uses Jetpack to filter spam comments, your personal data may be kept regardless of whether a comment is approved or marked as spam. This data is generally discarded when it is no longer needed. This is outside of my control. For full details, please refer to Automattic’s privacy policy. Automattic is the parent company of Jetpack.

Cookies

Cineberry does not set cookies automatically. WordPress may set a basic temporary cookie when you visit the site to check whether your browser accepts cookies; this contains no personal data and is discarded when you closer your browser.

If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website (if entered) in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. This only happens if you actively opt in. This cookie lasts for one year.

Embedded Content

Some articles on Cineberry include embedded content, such as YouTube video trailers. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

I have no control over this data collection. For full details, please refer to Google’s privacy policy.

Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to our processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, please contact me via the Contact page. I will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK’s data protection authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
